Description
MAKfam is a semi-full-service Chinese restaurant at 39 W 1st Ave in Denver, near 1st and Broadway in the Baker neighborhood. The cooking draws on traditional Chinese dishes, American Chinese flavors, family recipes and modern techniques. The team describes itself as American-born Chinese cooks making Chinese food for other American-born Chinese diners. It grew out of a New York-area pop-up and a Denver food hall concept.
Most of the small dining room has table service, while the window counter is counter service. The restaurant is walk-in only, and a waitlist with text updates is common at dinner. Large parties can be hard to seat. Families are welcome, though hip-hop and rap play, especially after dark, and some lyrics are explicit. The restaurant has received MICHELIN Guide Bib Gourmand recognition and a James Beard Foundation semifinalist nod for Chef Kenneth Wan, and it offers online ordering.
