Description
Dotty Wampus is a chocolate maker at 30550 County Road H in Cortez, Colorado, at the base of Mesa Verde National Park. Rather than a walk-in shop, it offers a guided tasting tour of a cottage chocolate factory, hosted by chocolatiers Bryan Davis and Joanne Haruta. The roughly one-hour visit combines tastings with magic tricks, animatronic shows and curios.
The chocolates are made from Ecuadorian cacao from the Esmeraldas and Manabi provinces. A sample tasting menu includes coffee truffles, black raspberry truffles, French tea truffles, rum and sea salt pralines and butterscotch caramels. The chocolates are gluten free, and kids are welcome. Tickets are required in advance, and the site currently notes that it is closed for renovations, so check the website before planning a visit.
