About Union Station
Union Station is a downtown Denver neighborhood named for the historic train station at its center. The station, which opened in 1881 and was later rebuilt after a fire, is an active hub today, serving Amtrak, regional and light rail trains, and bus connections at the adjoining transit center. The neighborhood sits on the northwest edge of downtown, next to Lower Downtown (LoDo), and the 16th Street Mall begins nearby at the station's southeast side. The station building, reopened in 2014 after a major renovation, includes a hotel, shops and places to eat and drink around its Great Hall. Newer apartment buildings, offices and plazas fill much of the area around the station, giving it a mix of commuters, residents and visitors.
